Vulnerability can be difficult, a challenge, and downright scary. For many of us, these are the reasons why we avoid being vulnerable in the first place. If people put themselves out there, it’s at the risk of potentially being hurt. We want to protect ourselves and our self-esteem. I guarantee that each one of us has kept ourselves guarded to avoid potential disappointment at some point in our life. Perhaps it was you not applying for a specific job or trying out for a certain team. If the outcome isn’t expected to be favourable, many avoid the situation completely. However, is this the high performance mindset we intend to strive for?
High performers strive to put themselves into vulnerable or uncomfortable situations. The reason for this is because it allows them to grow. Whether the outcome is intended to be positive or negative, there is always something to learn. Without putting ourselves into vulnerable situations, we will never know what we can handle. We will also not know our true potential. Take me for instance. I have always been somebody who has been influenced by the opinions of others (good and bad). I am pretty self-critical and in the past have avoided situations where I may be embarrassed or put on display. For me, starting this newsletter and my company, TCM Performance, required me to be incredibly vulnerable. Each time I release a piece of content, it leaves me open to criticism and embarrassment. I know there are some that think what I do is irrelevant or silly. There will always be people that strive to bring others down. However, I choose to be vulnerable each day in order to try and make the world a better place. By helping others to achieve a more fulfilling and meaningful life, it allows me to grow and continue working through my challenges with vulnerability. I share this anecdote because we all experience situations that are scary or that put us on display. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing if we view it as a opportunity for growth. The next time you encounter a situation where you’d normally choose security over vulnerability, pick the latter. Your future self will thank you for it.
Question: How often do you put yourselves into vulnerable or uncomfortable situations?

ICYMI: Check out last week’s article below!

Yes so true, allowing the discomfort to take place and allow the vulnerability to move forward is a huge step for many to take. Once taken it becomes easier to continue to take those steps forward for your future self.
Thanks again for another great article.
